It’s that wonderful time of year again. December has become a bit of a relaxing month for me. My day job slows down a little, which means that I spend more time at home. Since I’m an Oscar fiend, I also start going to movies as vigorously and with as much devotion as an Olympic athlete training for the big competition.
Reading the Advent Book blog has become a December tradition these past three years. The Advent Book Blog was created by Sean Cranbury and Julie Wilson (book promoters extraordinaire). Each December, they solicit book recommendations from a variety of literary types; readers, writers, publishing peeps and book enthusiasts.
Last year, my recommendation was Novella Carpenter’s excellent urban farming memoir, “Farm City.”
This year, it’s Steven Hayward’s wonderfully underrated novel, “Don’t be afraid.”
